Squirreling Around

As the snow melts and the sun shines, we all attempt to enjoy the not so treacherous conditions. So although last spring I had a hit out on these little creatures, today, I thoroughly enjoyed their antics. You see, I've named them Chip & Dale (or Della-don't really know what it is). I'm referring to the squirrels who live in the trees in our back yard.

You see, as a new home owner, I probably went out last spring/summer and purchased all kinds of flowers and bulbs. Not even days after I would plant them, these little animals would dig them up or chew them to pieces. I was highly offended, disappointed, and frustrated by their blatant disregard for my budding landscape. Not to mention all the money I wasted. It was as if they watched me plant them and as soon as I turned my back, they were right there ready for a meal.

Although I didn't appreciate their natural instincts, I do enjoy their playfulness. Today, as Greg and I sat on the couch, I saw Chip (I always call the first one I see Chip) run along the fence. I usually jump right up to go see what they're doing (still paranoid I guess), but today I just stayed in my seat. Then I thought I saw Dale going in the opposite direction. Soon after I thought they were really active and consistently running back and forth. I then noticed an extra visitor so I got up just in time to see a group of squirrels chasing each other all over the yard. It was really hard to keep track, but I think there were six of them. It looked like they were having a wonderful time. Up the tree, down the fence, through the yard, and across the wires. I don't know how long I stood there watching, but I realize that I have an affinity for these little furry frolickers.

Some animal lovers at work suggested that I feed them. Not sure if I'm ready for all that, however, I think we have an understanding. I don't plant any flowers for them to eat, and they will provide free natural entertainment. I recognize that they were only doing what came naturally to them. They really didn't mean any harm. And just think, I would not have had this refreshing experience if I shot them all with my bb gun.

I hope the rest of the crew was simply over for a visit. Maybe a family reunion or something. I don't know if I can handle six squirrels at my screen watching me eat dinner, but Chip & Dale are more than welcome to stick around.

Apple Tree Nursery

OK, so I am now looking to apply at the Apple Tree Nursery on the Main Campus of UT. At least when the children misbehave and don't follow the rules I could be a bit more understanding and slightly compassionate and even hopeful that some day they will learn right from wrong and be outstanding citizens.

I do not, however; have compassion for these grown folks who never follow rules and lack the professionalism that our patients and profession deserve. You see, I would much rather be in an environment that utilizes my God given gifts, talents, wisdom, and ability.

It is hard to respect people who don't respect themselves, let alone love them. (Lord, I'm listening and trying to learn something here.)

You see, sometimes I feel that some of the people around me are the perfect example of what happens when there is a lack of God in your life. You embody chaos, dysfunction, hatred (of self and others), and you are simply lost; messing up everything in and around you because you are in the midst of darkness.

I pray that the people around me see my light and come to know the God that I so adore. Sin is not in. Death is not the best. But since we are surrounded by it and an end is inevitable, I want to do all I can to be right with God and have a wonderful relationship with Him.

Please pray that the people around me start to love and respect themselves, find God, and get some light in their lives.

God loves us so much. He took the time to create us each uniquely and wonderfully. He has a vision and plan for each of us. I do not want to waste time on this Earth being useless and fruitless. I have such a desire for people to recognize who they are and whose they are and be amazing at all they do.

Therefore, I have such a hard time tolerating ignorance, incompetence, and complacency. Right now, Apple Tree is looking pretty good. In the meantime, I will be diligent in the work that I do, making every effort to be pleasing to God and be an example to the many lost souls I encounter each and every day.
