Date Night

For the past few weeks, my hubby and I have been trying something new; date night for free. One night each week, he gets home from work, we take the five minute drive to Borders, share a few short stories on the way, and then nestle into the comfy chairs for a couple hours of uninterrupted reads.

You see, I have this "thing" for a few locations in the world. One of which is the airport. Going to the airport reminds me that the world is active and vibrant. It is constantly moving and shaking and there are endless possibilities on where to go and what to do. It seems to take the blinders off of every day routines which restrict my ability to dream beyond my doorstep.

Another favorite is the beach. Sitting on the beach at sunrise is an experience like no other. I seem to hear and see God anew & afresh. I feel full of life, purpose, and potential with every rippled wave, grain of sand, and polished shell. Feeling the warmth of the morning sun as the Earth & the atmosphere obey God's orders is miraculous.

The following favorite is the cafe scene. There’s something about the intimate setting that a café has to offer. Bringing together eclecticism; embodying warm and fuzzy ambiance. Umm! I just love it. Whether it’s my soul mate or a group of friends, the café affords a sense of serenity. A warm cup of greatness, whispered smooth jazz, smothered with a hint of laughter, supplies me a great appreciation of the free flowing venue.

Lastly- the bookstore. While in a bookstore, excuses are incomprehensible. Surrounded by every topic and culture conceivable, there is a sense of empowerment to ensure that your life is remarkable. Encased by so many individuals expressing their personal perspectives & experiences, optimism & expectation, you find yourself willing to face another challenge and try a little harder the subsequent day. With each book ending up side by side, row after row, shelf upon shelf, often describing the same issue with a trivial twist, you begin to ask, What’s your excuse?

Exactly, the bookstore renders all excuses null & void. I mean can you believe that there are ten different magazines about crocheting? Seriously?! There is absolutely no explaination for not creatively express who you are and what you’ve ascertained on your life’s journey in whatever manner you choose.

So each week, as we sit together engulfed in various literary manifestations, I thank God for my breath of fresh air; for the time to relax with my husband, as I am revitalized & propelled into fortitude.

I will unwrap & exploit every gift that God has granted me.
